NASA Visions of the Future
Buy this print on Etsy →Picture standing on an alien plain and casting not one shadow but two. That is the everyday reality this NASA travel poster celebrates on Kepler-16b, a world that orbits two suns at once, the first confirmed planet found circling a binary star. JPL leaned into the wonder of it with the line "where your shadow always has company," and the artwork delivers: a lone traveler on a cold, twilight surface, twin stars low on the horizon, and two long shadows stretching across the ground. It is the kind of sight that once belonged only to science fiction, now anchored in a real discovery about how planets form and survive around paired stars.
The poster is part of NASA's "Visions of the Future" series, produced in 2016 by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The series borrows the confident graphic language of vintage WPA and Art Deco travel posters and points it outward, imagining tourism to genuine exoplanets and solar-system destinations. Kepler-16b, a chilly gas-and-rock giant roughly 200 light-years away, is a standout because its double-sunset premise is both scientifically real and irresistibly cinematic. As a United States government work, the design sits in the public domain, free for everyone to display and enjoy.
What you receive is a contemporary fine-art reproduction of that 2016 design, printed to gallery standards rather than pulled from an attic. We use museum-grade 189gsm archival matte paper and pigment inks that hold the poster's cool blues, dusky purples, and paired highlights with depth and longevity. The matte surface tames reflections, so the twin shadows and low suns stay sharp under any lighting. Choose among five sizes, 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, and 24x36 inches, for anything from a small alcove to a bold feature wall. Every order ships rolled and protected, arriving flat and ready to frame.
The moody, atmospheric palette of Kepler-16b makes it a versatile decorating piece. It adds intrigue to a kids' room or a space-themed nursery, brings a calm, contemplative note to a home office or reading nook, and gives a science classroom or STEM space a genuine talking point about binary stars. Hang it alongside other series titles to build a gallery wall of retro futurism wall art, or let it stand alone as a quietly dramatic focal point. For the astronomy enthusiast, the Star Wars fan who loves a double sunset, or the curious kid on your list, it makes a distinctive space-fan gift.
Put this exoplanet print on your wall and you keep a genuinely strange, wonderful world in view, a place where two suns set together and every shadow has company. It is a space travel poster rooted in real astronomy, a piece of JPL Visions of the Future imagination, and a daily reminder of how varied the galaxy's planets truly are. Bring home the Kepler-16b NASA poster and let its twin shadows spark conversation for years to come.
