A shimmering masterpiece of Art Nouveau, this is Alphonse Mucha's 1896 poster for Champagne Ruinart, the venerable house that is the oldest established champagne producer in the world. A graceful young woman, crowned with flowers and wrapped in flowing, richly patterned robes, gazes serenely from within the sinuous frame and golden ornament that made Mucha the most famous decorative artist of his age. It is elegance, luxury and pure Belle Époque romance in a single image.

Mucha (1860-1939) became an overnight sensation in 1890s Paris after his poster for the actress Sarah Bernhardt, and he went on to define the entire visual language of Art Nouveau - so completely that for a time the style was simply called 'le style Mucha.' His advertising posters for champagnes, cigarette papers, biscuits and perfumes turned commerce into fine art, using idealised women, whiplash curves and jewel-like ornament to lend an air of dreamlike sophistication to whatever they sold. For Ruinart, one of the grandest names in champagne, he created something suitably sumptuous.

Everything that people love about Mucha is here: the calm, beautiful face, the extraordinary rhythm of hair and drapery, the soft, warm palette and the intricate decorative border that frames the figure like a halo. It is a design meant to be lingered over, every corner rewarding a closer look.

As wall art it is timelessly refined. The elegant figure and golden tones make it a natural for a bar cart, home bar or dining room, a kitchen, a bedroom or a romantic gallery wall, bringing a note of celebration and Art Nouveau glamour to any space. It is a wonderful gift for champagne and wine lovers, Mucha collectors, Art Nouveau enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates decorative vintage art, and it pairs beautifully with other Mucha and Belle Époque prints.

Because the original dates to 1896 and Mucha's work is now in the public domain, we are able to reproduce it at full museum quality.

Each print is produced on premium 189 gsm museum-grade archival matte paper, faithfully capturing the delicate line work, warm golden colour and soft vintage paper of the original lithograph - ready to frame and enjoy for years to come.
